Nebbia(2023)
The Nebbia series was inspired by Joseph Brodsky's book "Watermark," which contains forty-eight essays about Venice. The poet was fascinated by Venice and visited multiple times, always during the winter. Brodsky portrays Venice as a place for contemplation and self-oblivion, where one can find peace in solitude and immerse oneself in dreams. This sense of isolation becomes even more intense during Venetian fogs: "When the local fog, the famous nebbia, renders this place ... by obliterating not only reflections but everything that has a shape... The fog is thick, blinding, immobile... In short, a time for self-oblivion, induced by a city that has ceased to be seen.”
The Nebbia project is my visual attempt to immerse myself in the ancient, all-consuming fog and experience the eternal beauty of a silent, fog-trapped city drifting along the dark paths of the canals, much like Brodsky did.
